Last year, Whitestown's holiday season opened with a light switch. On a Friday evening at the end of November, Main Street Park hosted Merry at Main from 5 to 7 p.m., and the park was lit at 7. Santa's Workshop held its first Saturday a week later, on December 6, and the indoor Winter Market waited until December 13.
The 2026 calendar runs the other way around. The Winter Market opens on November 14, and Santa's Workshop opens on Thanksgiving Saturday, November 28. The park lighting, now called Light Up Main, follows on Friday, December 4. This year the lighting caps the first stretch of the season. It no longer starts it.
The same events, in a new order
| Event | 2025 first date | 2026 first date | Location |
|---|---|---|---|
| Winter Market | Sat., Dec. 13 | Sat., Nov. 14 | Municipal Complex, 6210 Veterans Dr. |
| Santa's Workshop | Sat., Dec. 6 | Sat., Nov. 28 | Main Street Park, 4286 S. Main St. |
| Park lighting | Late November, as Merry at Main | Fri., Dec. 4, as Light Up Main | Main Street Park |
The Market and the Workshop moved up by about four weeks and one week, respectively. The lighting moved into December. In 2025, the Town's own release promised Santa's Workshop "each Saturday after Thanksgiving," but the dates it listed began on December 6. This year the Thanksgiving Saturday is on the schedule, with four Saturdays in a row: November 28 and December 5, 12 and 19, from noon to 2 p.m., each with a different holiday guest.
How Merry at Main turned into Light Up Main
The park lighting has changed shape before. Merry at Main debuted in 2023 on December 9 at Main Street Park. In 2024 it was a Saturday afternoon event on December 7, running noon to 3 p.m. with a holiday market and reindeer. That same evening, the Santa Parade left the Municipal Complex at 6 p.m. In 2025 it became a two-hour Friday evening event built around the 7 p.m. lighting, with food and drinks for sale and visits with Santa.
Light Up Main keeps the 2025 format and gives it a new name. The Town's event page calls it "a brand-new holiday experience." It runs Friday, December 4, from 5 to 7 p.m., with Santa in his workshop, local food trucks and the official lighting at about 7 p.m. The food and drink lineup is still listed as "coming soon." The new name also comes with new lights. In its September 2026 monthly report, Whitestown Parks and Recreation noted that it had "received new Christmas lights for 'Light up Main' event."
As the lighting became an evening event, the shopping that was part of the 2024 afternoon moved too. Browsing local vendors now happens indoors, at the Winter Market across town.
The Municipal Complex carries the indoor half
The Winter Market is a younger tradition than it seems. The Town launched it in November 2024, and the first market was held November 16 at the Municipal Complex. Boone County Daily News described those first markets as a follow-up to a successful summer farmers market season, selling goods much like the summer stands did. The second season opened later, on December 13, 2025.
Season three goes back to a November start. The schedule:
- Saturday, November 14, 2026
- Saturday, December 12, 2026
- Saturday, January 9, 2027
- Saturday, February 6, 2027
- Saturday, March 6, 2027
Each market runs 9 a.m. to noon in the Municipal Complex gym and Town Hall at 6210 Veterans Drive. Entry is free. Vendors sell prepackaged food, but there's no hot food for sale. By October 5, 26 vendors had registered for the season, and live music was booked for four of the five dates. The public vendor directory so far lists two names: Nala's Nook for baked goods and PSR Designs Personalized Gifts.
On other days, the same building is where Whitestown keeps moving through the cold months. The Parks department's current weekly schedule includes:
- Open volleyball on Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
- Pickleball on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 9 a.m. to noon and 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
- Open badminton on Fridays, 5 to 8 p.m.
- Crafting classes on various Saturdays, usually monthly, covering knitting, crochet and painting in the style of Bob Ross
December 12 is the one Saturday with both
Because of the new order, there's exactly one date this year when the Winter Market and Santa's Workshop both run. The Market closes at noon, and the Workshop opens at noon. Here's one way to do both that Saturday:
- Start at the Winter Market, which opens at 9 a.m. at 6210 Veterans Drive. Arrive early if you're shopping from the baked-goods tables, and plan to eat lunch somewhere else, since the market has no hot food.
- Drive over to Main Street Park at 4286 S. Main St. for Santa's Workshop, which runs noon to 2 p.m. Each Saturday has a different holiday guest.
- If you want a warm drink first, Hattie's Coffee House at 607 S. Main St. lists Saturday hours of 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. L.A. Cafe at 4 S. Main St. offers dine-in and takeout for a sit-down lunch.
- For the late afternoon, Moontown Brewing Company at 345 S. Bowers St. posts its brewpub hours online.
Thanksgiving weekend has its own short version. The Workshop's first Saturday, November 28, falls two days after the holiday, which gives visiting family an outing at the park before most of them drive home. Light Up Main comes the following Friday, when the crowd will be mostly local again.
The parade that isn't on the 2026 list yet
The 2026 Parks event list has one gap compared with the last two years. In both 2024 and 2025, the season included the Santa Parade, with Santa riding a Whitestown Fire Department truck. The 2025 parade left the Municipal Complex at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, and residents were invited to gather along the route. The 2025 route map divided the trip into nine sections. It started at Town Hall, passed Station 272, Anson, the Water Tower, Main Street Park, Walker Farms, Legacy Core and Jackson Run, and ended at Bridle Oaks.
As of late October, the Parks department's 2026 list includes the Winter Market, Santa's Workshop and Light Up Main, but no parade. The Fire Department's public calendar shows only Fire Board meetings. Last year's lineup announcement didn't come out until November 19, so a 2026 date could still be announced. The Town's news page is the place to watch.
Main Street Park lights up while its next version is still on paper
The park hosting most of these Saturdays is due for a redesign. In August, the Town asked for resident input on a Main Street Park expansion and held input sessions on August 27, September 15 and September 30. On the project site, inventory and public input are still marked active. Planning and design come next: the team will draft a concept for public review, followed by an implementation phase. No construction date has been posted.
The Parks department is also looking ahead to 2027. Its September report says staff are "working on new events for 2027," the Park Master Plan update is close to starting, and a request for proposals has gone out for fitness equipment along the Big 4 Trail, with bids due November 2. Light Up Main's new lights go up on December 4 in a park whose next design is still being planned.
Seasonal timing matters as much on the market side as it does on the Parks calendar.
